DAY 2 - Getting to know the King of the kingdomby Carolin Sadler
Lets take a few steps back wards...O.K. stand up and take 3 giant steps back. Sit down. Now we can start.
Think back to when God made the heavens and earth. How did he do it? Did he pick up some dirt and make stuff out of that. NO he spoke and VOLA there was light. Again...and there were the stars. He made it all out of nothing. AMAZING!
Now look up John 1 :1-3. It is a riddle, can you figure it out?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being.
ASK :What is « the Word » we are speaking about? Look up John 1: 14 and read it together. ASK : Who lived with God, was God and became flesh and lived among us? JESUS
Jesus is the creator, the word. The Bible is the word of God that tells us all about Jesus. Soooo that means that for us to truely have a clear understanding of who God is we nead to spend time reading and studying God’s word. It is important that we know who the Bible says God is...not just what we THINK he is. Our relationship with God grows stronger as we learn about His character- his love, holiness, grace, kindness, mercy and patience just to name a few.
I’m sure you get LOTS of information each day, on the T.V. in books, on the internet so much that you can’t remember it all. I sure can’t. But the Bible is not just another book, but the Word of God. That makes it VERY different from any other book. How do you think we need to treat it then? My mother always told me I was not to put the Bible on the floor, I couldn’t figure it out then, but it has to do with respecting and honoring it.
Honour is a word that is not used too often these days in our culture.
Together talk about what you think honour means before you read on.
I believe God wants to bring us back to a deep honour of His word as we realise Who it is that is speaking in it. Once we really understand that, we will want to listen and obey what it says.
Look up the following verses, and wrrte out what you can learn from them about God’s word.
Therefore it is a good idea to spend more time reading the Bible each day. It isn’t how fast you read or how much you read each day, but that you learn something. Some good questions to ask are : is there a word of encouragement, something to do or avoid, or a truth about God that is new. Write down your thoughts in a journal. That way you can keep track of what God is showing you.
The writer of Ps.119 :11 says that he had hidden the word of God in his heart so that he would not sin against God. The more we read and memorize The Word, the easier it will be for us to remember the Kingdom instructions and promises.
Action : 1)Take one of the scriptures that you looked up today and put them to the tune of a song you know or make a rap of the verse. That is one way to help you rmember the word. 2) If you don’t have a journal, get one and start writng down the things that you learn and the thoughts that God gives you as you participate in this consecration call. Take the front cover and decorate it so that it reflects who you are.
