A Declaration of Love
"We are to be united in Holy Matrimony on this 1st July" - Sir John A. McDonald, May 30, 1867
Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.
Song of Solomon 8:6
The brook of time stops here today
And forms a pool in which all can see
Like in a mirror, the love reflected
for these hearts, to whom we say
the time has come to live your dreams.
People of Quebec, it is your turn
To hear words of love spoken to you
People of Quebec it is your turn
To hear words of love spoken to you
(Adapted from Gilles Vigneault, Gens du Pays).
Today as the English-speaking church of Canada
We reach back into the pages of the spiritual history of our nation to join with the prayers, faith, worship and prophetic utterances of former generations.
We recognize that in the foundations of our nation is God hid a secret wisdom that He destined for our glory before time began (I Corinthians 2:6-7), a Holy Matrimony between French and English Canada as a demonstration of the healing power of His love.
His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility. (Ephesians 2:15-16)
We embrace wholeheartedly this rich pre-ordained plan and we embrace Quebec as our beautiful beloved.
We declare that through the Canadian church, the manifold wisdom of God is being made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to His eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.
