Here are the stages in the journey of the
Israelites when they came out of Egypt by
divisions under the leadership of Moses and
Aaron. At the LORD's command Moses recorded the
stages in their journey. This is their journey
by stages: Num 33:1-2
There is a place where God has chosen throughout centuries to
birth His journeys: in the hearts of men whose sole desire was to seek first the
kingdom of God. In 1991, Pastor Bob Birch, an 82-year old man of devoted prayer,
tested faith, deep humility felt to gather together a team of young men who
would covenant together to give themselves constantly to prayer, to hear what
the Spirit was saying to the church. "To watch and pray," Pastor Bob would say,
"is the call of every Christian". |

This new team was soon christened Watchmen for
the Nations, drawing its name from Isaiah
62:6-7. I have posted watchmen on your
walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent
day or night. You who call on the LORD, give
yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he
establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise
of the earth.
The Watchmen team was guided by this simple principle:
earnestly seek the face of the Lord for what is on His heart and only do what He
says. They even made a covenant with one another not to initiate any programs or
plans unless they had a clear word from the Lord that was discerned by the group
and confirmed. Only then would they move. |
For years, they watched and waited. Praying and asking the Lord to reveal His heart for Canada.
Among those who had joined the Watchmen team with Pastor Bob was a young Egyptian man named David Demian. David had come from Egypt in 1988 and after some time had become a traveling companion for Pastor Bob.
In 1994, David had an encounter with a prophet that would change his life and the direction of Watchmen. This prophet spoke to him about a conference, a gathering that needed to happen the next year. |
From June 28th to July 5th, the first Gathering of the Nations was held in Whistler, BC with 2300 people joining together from many nations to wait upon the Lord and seek His face. In this gathering, God moved among the First Nations leaders to own their rightful stewardship of the land and repent of wrongful stewardship (the worship of false gods). A strong anointing came upon the native people and all those witnessing this moment to the point that the rejoicing and dancing spilled out of the auditorium and onto the streets.
The following July, the Lord initiated another gathering in Victoria which was highlighted by a deep time of repentance of the fathers to the younger generation and a turning of the hearts of these children to the fathers. The night culminated in an exuberant dance for hours between the generations that lasted late into the night.
