SPECIAL WATCHMEN UPDATE

Response to the Attack on America - September 11, 2001

By David Demian

Dear Friends:

It is with great sorrow that I write today. We are deeply shocked and saddened by the events that have transpired this morning in the United States. And I feel it is very important that we incline our ears to clearly hear what the Spirit is saying to the Canadian church in this hour. The Lord has put a number of things deep within my spirit about today's events and I want to share with you what I believe is the Lord's heart for this time.

A Call to the Remnant

This morning's events may represent one of the last calls to the remnant before Rosh Hashanah begins on the evening of September 17. Today a plumb line was set for the nations of the world. As I watched the news this morning, I was reminded of what the Lord spoke to me last Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), while speaking at a conference in Jerusalem. He told me that the long periods of quietness, to which we had become accustomed in the Middle East, were over. From now on there will be periods of intense heat and struggle, followed by increasingly shorter periods of quietness.

The Lord is using these times to test hearts. He is testing the hearts of the Jewish people to see if they will turn to and call upon Jehovah and not only rely on their military power. He is testing the hearts of the Arab people to see if they will understand God's destiny and purposes in the land. And finally, He is testing the hearts of all of the nations of the world to see how they will stand relative to God's purposes for the Jewish people. Today's events are a clear trumpet call that the Lord wants the nations to stand for what He has on His heart.

A Call to America

I want to call on the Canadian church right now to release all of our hearts and resources to stand with our friends the Americans. America has paid a very high price for their commitment to stand with Israel.

I also feel very strongly we must petition the Lord to release upon the United States a deep humility and a spirit of brokenness and repentance so that they may respond to this terrible tragedy in a way that God's purposes will be fulfilled and the enemy's purposes thwarted. Let us pray that America will not step down from their righteous stand and turn their backs on the Jewish people, feeling that the price is too high. Let us cry out to God to extend mercy to them in this dark time and for the God of all comfort to surround each American, and especially those that have lost loved ones today, with His arms of love and compassion in this time of suffering. (I Corinthians 2:3)

A Call for Protection

I believe that we must now call upon the Lord to protect the borders of Canada so that whatever demonic powers may want to penetrate our nation at this time will be exposed, that Canada might be a safe haven for all who seek refuge in her.

A Call to our Nation's Destiny

This is the time for the Canadian church to take authority in the spiritual realm to call forth Canada's end-time purposes into reality. Today marks a day in history that will never be forgotten. But more importantly, it represents a spiritual watershed that shows us that we have moved more firmly into God's accelerated timetable for the last days.

It is in this time that Canada must rise up. Our flag represents our spiritual destiny; the leaf is for the healing of the nations. (Revelations 22:2; Ezekiel 47:12). We are to be a refuge for the nations. Let us take as a prophetic picture the Americans reaching out to Canada to open our airports, our nation and our hearts to receive their airplanes and their people. And let us cry out to the Lord to release Canada fully to her destiny to bring healing and wholeness to the nations of the world.

A Call for Righteousness

Finally, I believe it is critical that the Canadian church enters into an intense time of prayer and supplication, calling on the name of the Lord for our nation. Let us pray that Canada, which has come so far in this journey of repentance and reconciliation with Israel, will pass the test as a nation and stand for righteousness in this hour. May we maintain a position of deep humility and brokenness realizing that it is because of the Lord's great mercy alone that we have not suffered the kind of destruction we have seen today.

I feel that it is important at this time that we must declare all over Canada what the Canadian church declared in Israel during the Journey of Hope in May. During this trip, we had the privilege of meeting with the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yisrael Lau at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. There we presented him with a maple wood tablet and recited the inscription within, which represents the commitment of the Canadian church. Will you declare this with me over our nation today?

As Canadian Christians, we pledge to take a leading role in ensuring that such atrocities as the Holocaust will never again happen, to our friends, the Jewish People. As Ruth said to Naomi, "Your people will be my people."

We pray Jews and Gentiles will find true peace in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."

Later on in the trip, we also met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rabbi Michael Melchior at the Knesset. There I had the opportunity to speak forth the following commitment to the nation of Israel on behalf of the Canadian church. May this be the commitment of the Canadian church, our government and our people in this hour.

As a representation from the provinces and territories in Canada, and from ethnic backgrounds Canada is privileged to have, and from many, many denominations who are represented here, we want to say from our hearts that we are not only repenting for the past, but we are seeking to build a bridge in the spirit between Canada and Israel. That we will walk together with honour and integrity. And you can count on a friend in Canada when you are in need.

A Call to Gather Together

I am calling all Christians to gather together in your churches, schools, offices, prayer centers and homes to call upon the name of the Lord, that His purposes would be accomplished in such a time as this.

We are calling the nation of Canada to prayer during a special edition of 100 Huntley Street with David Mainse on Wednesday, September 12, replacing their regular programming.

Let the prayer of our hearts be: God keep our land, glorious and free. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
