Taiwan's Hour of Destiny

Early last year, we wrote about our first trip to Taiwan. Taiwan is a nation positioned by God to be a gateway to fulfill His purposes in the Asian world, as has been confirmed even recently in many prophetic words. However, for the past few years, Taiwan has been experiencing wake-up calls with national disaster-level floods, droughts and earthquakes. On our first trip in November 2001, the Lord birthed a deep travail in our spirits for Taiwan and we felt that He was calling us to walk closely with this nation as part of fulfilling Canada’s mandate to bring healing to the nations. This was confirmed to us when we heard one of the national leaders proclaim at a prayer meeting: “Canada is the hope of the nations.”

Throughout 2002, we traveled to Taiwan six times to walk with the leaders as they began the journey to see the healing of their nation. During one of these trips, in May 2002, we were asked to speak at the Day of National Prayer. There the Lord asked us to declare that this is the kairos hour for the church of Taiwan and to call the church to come in humility, brokenness and repentance to the Lord to reclaim its spiritual inheritance and redeem its destiny.

Many key leaders, including the heads of major denominations and influential churches, embraced this call. Together with them we undertook two national prayer journeys, in June and September 2002, calling the nation to travail. In city after city we were amazed to see how 80% or more of the people responded when we asked them if they had been alerted by the Lord that this was a serious hour for Taiwan, and that the destiny of their nation lay in the balance. As the altars would fill with sobbing travailing people of all ages and denominations, we knew for certain that we had indeed landed in a kairos time.

After the September tour, the leaders felt to call for national repentance. On February 27, 2003, believers will gather in cities and regions throughout Taiwan for corporate repentance. Then on February 28, a day of National Repentance will take place in Taipei. In order to prepare the church for this historic event, the leaders released a powerful book to the believers, teaching them how to personally prepare for the repentance and how to cleanse their own lives of idolatry. In the last few weeks, the secular media have laid hold of this book and have begun to openly criticize and oppose the church for their stand against idolatry and for exalting God above Buddha.

We believe that the hour has come for the whole nation of Taiwan to receive its inheritance and see the fulfillment of its prophetic promises as they turn back to God in repentance and through seeking His face (2 Chronicles 7:14). But we also know that the enemy does not want to let go of Taiwan.

Therefore, we are calling the church in Canada to a time of intensive spiritual warfare over these next few weeks leading up to the Day of Repentance. As the widow in Luke 18 would not let go of her legal right, this is our posture with the church of Taiwan. We will not let go until we see the Lord’s purposes fulfilled. We are also calling the church of Canada to fast for three days, February 25 – 27, which will coincide with the time of repentance in Taiwan.

Canada has been called for the healing of the nations so we must take this responsibility seriously and stand with Taiwan at this time. We believe this will be a seed for the days to come, when Taiwan and Canada will walk together closely to see other nations released throughout the world.

Let us proclaim over Taiwan in these crucial days, what we are proclaiming over our own nation

Taiwan will fear the name of the Lord
And her rulers, will revere His glory! (Psalm 102:15)
