And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. Genesis
1:3-4
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love
it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
Words have
power. And just as God spoke and created the heavens and the
earth, we too have the power of “life and death” in our
tongues. The words we speak determine our course of our lives
and the lives of those around us.
Why? Because
we are spiritual beings living in a spiritual realm governed by
spiritual laws.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not
return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and
flourish, so that it yields seed for the
sower and bread for the eater,
so
is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me
empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose
for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11
Words of God,
words of life spoken through generations, continue to speak,
looking for agreement, longing for fulfillment. And words of
our enemy, the “accuser of the brethren”, the father of lies,
are also seeking to produce a harvest: one of stealing, killing
and destroying (John 10:10)
The question
is: With which words will we exercise the power of agreement?
“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound
in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree
about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father
in heaven. Matthew 18:18-20
Will we agree
with the words of faith and hope spoken over us by our Loving
Father? Or will we agree with the words of fear and
hopelessness spoken by our enemy?
My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises
all day long. Psalm 35:28
Today, as we
continue to consecrate ourselves to the Lord, let us ask Him to
make us like Isaiah. May a coal come from the altar and cleanse
our lips that we might be Holy. (Isaiah 6:6-7) Let us choose
today to speak life, to speak love, to speak words of faith.
Let us ask the Lord to fashion us more and more into His image
so that we will only speak what we hear the Father speaking!
(John 12:49-50)
Prayer Focus and Practical Actions
1)
Read Matt
12:34-37 which tells us that we will
be judged for any careless word. Ask God to bring to your mind
times you have spoken things, about yourself, about God or about
others that were not according to His will. Ask God to forgive
you and cleanse your lips.
2)
Commit to make
Psalm 19:14 your daily prayer. May the words of my mouth and
the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my
Rock and my Redeemer.
